|Stereotactic Core Needle Biopsy|
|This is an outpatient, minimally invasive biopsy technique that is performed on abnormalities that are detected on mammogram. It uses mammography and a vacuum-assisted sampling device to biopsy these abnormalities. |
The procedure takes 20-30 minutes to perform, does not cause scaring that could make future mammograms difficult to interpret, decreases the number of subsequent operations needed to diagnose lesions and is just as accurate as a surgical breast biopsy.
Coastal Carolina Breast Center has been performing these biopsies since 1996 and was the third center in the state of South Carolina to begin offer this minimally invasive breast biopsy technique. To date, the Center has performed over 2000 stereotactic procedures.
